China began to produce OLED-screens
Chinese University of Tsinghua University and manufacturer of screens Visionox announced the launch of the first factory in China for the manufacture of OLED-displays, reported in the Chinese news agency Interfax. Construction of the plant began in 2005.
The main products of the plant will be small OLED-screens to be installed in mobile devices. For example, cellular phones and GPS-navigators. Investments in production amounted to about 73 million dollars.
Production capacity of this company is 12 million screens a year. In the second half of next year Visionox planned to open a second China plant for the production of OLED-screens.
Prior to the opening of the plant for the manufacture of OLED-screens in China, the only country producing such displays were Japan and South Korea.
OLED-Displays exceed normal for a number of parameters. In particular, they require no special lighting, as the pixels they themselves emit light. But the production of such screens is very expensive and is linked with many difficulties.
